What does this resource cover?
This is a series of lessons created by the Gail Borden Public Library District and Shared on DigitalLearn.org that will teach learners how to build their own PC and conduct basic repairs. There are three lessons in the series: All About Computers, Disassembly & Reassembly, and Troubleshooting.
What will community members learn?
According to the included lesson plans for lessons one and three (lesson two does not have learning objectives), after learners complete this series of lessons, they will be able to:
- Name of all of the parts in a computer
- Make informed decisions about what computer parts will be right for their computer
- Identify what operating system is right for them
- Identify what peripherals are right for them
- Name stores to buy parts from
- Identify the best brands
- Identify where to buy used parts
- Explain how to plan for future upgrades
- Solve easy computer issues
- Determine what part needs to be replaced or repaired
- Purchase a replacement
- Install the new part
- Dispose of the broken part.
How long will this program take?
90 minutes per lesson.
What materials are needed?
Projection screen, projector, computer for presentation, computers for display/take-apart, handouts, scratch paper, pencils, Windows 7 or above software.

One staff.
