Marylanders Online partners with the National Digital Inclusion Alliance (NDIA) several times a year to offer a two-day Digital Navigator Training. Check back or sign up for the Marylanders Online newsletter to be the first to know when new trainings are added!
What are Digital Navigators?
Digital navigators provide individualized or small group assistance to Marylanders with information and resources on affordable internet access, appropriate device, digital skills, and provide basic technical support to enhance digital access and inclusion in Maryland. This assistance may be provided in person or by voice telephone, email, text, video chat, and other communication methods that work for the learner.
Training Learning Objectives:
Trainees will understand and recognize Digital Inclusion and how activities support building digital equity in their fields and respective communities.
Trainees will be equipped with resources and access to local information to address digital inclusion holistically. As access points for their clients, digital navigators are able to reliably assess client needs and goals and recommend courses of action regarding one or all of the following:
a. Affordable, reliable home broadband connectivity
b. Affordable, reliable devices
c. Digital skills instruction, courses, resources, and support
Trainees will be equipped with skills and best practices around conducting the reference interview (i.e. intake form) and national digital data resources (and similar resources) that provide information on local internet service providers and subscription costs.
This training is a unique opportunity for Marylanders to enhance their skills and understand the vital role of a Digital Navigator. Whether assisting in libraries, schools, senior centers, or offering disciplinary services to various populations, this training will empower attendees to support their community through digital literacy.
