What does this resource cover? 

This is a lesson plan created by the Literacy Information Communication System (LINCS) that will help learners to use Google Docs, including creating a document, sharing a document, collaborating with others, and formatting a document. For ESL/EFL learners, this lesson is at a high intermediate level.

Note: This lesson plan is designed under the assumption that learners have taken the email, Word, and computer basic modules of the Northstar Digital Literacy Assessment. Instructors should highly recommend learners to benefit from those or similar modules before moving on to this lesson.

What will community members learn? 

According to the included lesson plan, after learners complete this lesson, they will be able to:

  • Use simple formatting skills in Google Docs,
  • Tell others about the meaning of safety signs,
  • Create and share a document using Google Docs,
  • Draw on vocabulary of workplace safety generated in class to talk about their work,
  • Write simple descriptions of the meaning of different signs,
  • Employ the vocabulary of text formatting to follow oral commands.

How long will this program take?

75 minutes.

What materials are needed?

Class set of laptops/Chromebooks or access to a computer lab or tablets, Northstar Digital Literacy Assessments.

How many staff are required?

One staff member is required.
