About

Amy Gyau-Moyer serves as the Senior Director of Community Health for the University of Maryland Medical System (UMMS) on the Equity, Diversity and Inclusion team. In this role, Amy is responsible for the individual and aggregate system community health agenda(s) of UMMS and its 12 Member Hospitals. This includes oversight of community health programs, community health policies, needs assessments, and adherence to regulatory and reporting requirements while working collaboratively with cross-functional teams to coordinate all Population Health activities regarding interventions, evaluations, and management of specific health programs.


With over 20 years’ experience in the Human Services, Population and Public Health arenas, Amy has facilitated successful initiatives and programs used to mitigate health disparities on behalf of complex nonprofit and government institutions. Amy’s efforts are concentrated on the Social Determinants of Health while collaborating with various stakeholders to reduce racial and health inequities. Her work to a large extent has been focused on traditionally marginalized communities with the goal of developing robust, authentic partnerships to improve overall health.


Prior to joining UMMS, Amy worked in Community Health for Kaiser Permanente where she was responsible for building and leading a portfolio of health equity initiatives. Amy has held several senior positions in her field, which includes serving as the Director of Community Health Improvement for the University of Miami Health System. While there, Amy created and oversaw the foundational framework for Community Health Improvement in addition to the coordination and implementation of their Community Benefit strategy.


Amy is a social justice advocate and works towards increasing equity centered strategies. This has been the essential focus throughout her career as she established collaborative Public Health initiatives grounded in best practices. In the realm of keeping equity, diversity and inclusion at the helm of her interactions, Amy is trained in Collective Impact strategies and a graduate of the Racial Equity Institute and Undoing Racism training programs.
Amy deeply believes in giving back to her community and often spends her time volunteering to support Food Justice. She also spent the last two years as an appointed Commissioner for the Montgomery County Commission on Health and four years as a Community Development Advisory Committee member for Montgomery County.


Amy holds an MS in Management and an MBA, both from the University of Maryland University College. Her undergraduate degree is in Healthcare Administration from the Washington Adventist University. A believer in life-long learning; in 2021 Amy pursued graduate level education in Social Work and Disaster Resilience Leadership at Tulane University School of Social Work. Currently, Amy is pursuing her doctoral degree at Tulane University School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine.
