What does this resource cover? 

This lesson is created by CommonSense Education and will help sixth grade-aged students learn about phishing, identity theft, and online scams. Downloadable materials are available in both English and Spanish.

What will community members learn? 

According to the included lesson plan, after learners complete this lesson, they will be able to:

  • Compare and contrast identity theft with other kinds of theft.
  • Describe different ways that identity theft can occur online.
  • Use message clues to identify examples of phishing.

How long will this program take?

  • 45 minutes

  • Markers or highlighters, pencils, blank paper, lesson slides (downloadable), handouts (downloadable), lesson quiz (linked), computer with Internet access for instructor, computer with Internet access for each participant, projector, projection screen, speakers
