Tom brenan Des Speaker

About

Tom serves as the as Vice President of Government Relations for Lead For America and where leads the policy and advocacy activities for LFA’s signature program, the American Connection Corps AmeriCorps. 

Prior to his arrival at LFA, Tom served at America's Service Commissions (ASC), the national association for the 52 governor-appointed state service commissions throughout the nation who fund and support service opportunities such as AmeriCorps and the Volunteer Generation Fund. Tom was the chief advocate for state service and has worked extensively with Congressional staff, governors’ offices, administration officials, AmeriCorps Agency leadership, and other federal and private sector leaders.

 After graduating from the University of Denver, Tom started his career as a VISTA Volunteer serving in Tulsa, OK. As a VISTA, Tom transformed a closed Catholic school located in a public housing community into a community education center. A year later he became part of a team that established the Oklahoma Community Service Commission. He joined the AmeriCorps Agency and during his tenure served in a number of roles, including Recruitment Officer, AmeriCorps Program Officer, and Government Relations Officer.

 Tom lives in Bethesda, MD with his wife Abbey and their two children.
