Karla Suomala is the Co-Director of the San Francisco Tech Council (SFTC), a nationally unique multi-sector collaborative dedicated to bridging the digital divide for older adults and people with disabilities. A life-long educator with an MA in Digital Technologies in Teaching and Learning from the University of San Francisco, Karla specializes in digital literacy training for older adults and technology capacity building for the nonprofits that serve them. Most recently, Karla and her colleague, Andrew Broderick, conducted a patient portal pilot incorporating a web-based "sandbox" so that older adults could learn to use their portals without risk.
